Francesco Vitali was born in Novara, in Italy in 1971. In 1996 he graduated from a famous The Brera Fine Arts Academy with a high grade point. Between 1994 and 1995 he was studying in The Department of Theatre Arts at San Francisco State University. In 1997 he was working as a light designer and photographer in New York and San Francisco on a theater play Les Sept Princesses by M. Maeterlinck, sponsored by the City of Milan, adapted and directed by Claudia Botta. In 2000 he won a public competition organized by the European Union and Fondazione Teatro Massimo di Palermo and worked as a scenographer for several theatrical productions, as a light designer he was working on Salome by Antonio Porta, with Deda Cristina Colonna, directed by Valeria Patera, with scenography designed by Claudia Bott and costumes by Fendi. In 2002 he was awarded for the Best Cinematography at the MEI (the Independent Labels Meeting), for a video-clip UMANOIDE by PuntoG Blu. He has been working along with a theatre director Deda Cristina Colonna as a light and stage designer on: Voluptas dolendi I GESTI DEL CARAVAGGIO (2002/2006), Et in Arcadia ego, il Guercino tra sacro e arcano and Il Lamento di Arianna with Valentina Cortese. From 2000 to 2003 he was working as a light technician for Fondazione Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Since 2003 he has been collaborating with numerous fashion designers and music bands as a photographer and director of photography. In 2005, he was responsible for lights and scenography of Circobud by Daniela Morelli, a musical directed by Federica Santambrogio (Teatro degli Arcimboldi - Scala di Milano). In 2007, he was working as a light designer and scenographer on the opera The Fairy Queen, directed by Deda Cristina Colonna, in 2008-2009 - on Madam Butterfly, directed by Federica Santambrogio, As.Li.Co. In 2008-2010 he directed a movie adaptation of Voluptas dolendi I GESTI DEL CARAVAGGIO produced by Fondazione Marco Fodella, which was broadcasted by a TV channel - SKY CLASSIC in 2011. He currently works as a light designer and scenographer for various Italian theatrical productions and as an art photographer for several contemporary art galleries.
